“The Great Island Tradition”
Come celebrate the prestigious Gold Cup Parade, the largest street parade in eastern Canada! This year’s theme is 2014 – Celebrating 150 Years of the 1864 Conference. We will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the historic Charlottetown Conference which, three years later in 1867, led to establishing our beautiful country. We are inviting all parade participants to be creative and find a way to showcase the rich history of the Island’s heritage.
The Gold Cup and Saucer Race (1960) and The Gold Cup Parade (1962) were founded by Frank Acorn and Bill Hancox with the purpose of reviving Old Home Week, focusing attention on PEI’s harness racing industry, and providing exciting entertainment for both Islanders and summer visitors. The Parade has been held annually since 1962, and has become the feature event of the summer on the Island!
Every year, hundreds of entries wind their way through downtown featuring to the delight of children and adults of all ages. The Parade features marching bands, floats, antique cars, giant balloons, clowns, and horses – there is something for everyone!
Come celebrate the 53rd annual parade with us on Friday, August 15th in Charlottetown, PEI!
