(Charlottetown, PE) – In a news conference held in conjunction with Old Home Week on Tuesday, June 19, details of the 57th annual Gold Cup Parade were announced. The Parade will be held on Friday, August 17th, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The 2018 Gold Cup Parade theme is “P.E.I.’s Got Talent”. This theme celebrates all of the talented artists, performers, athletes, and more in Prince Edward Island.
All float entries should try to incorporate the theme into the design of their floats. Parade Chair, Ray Murphy hopes to see an increase in the number of float entries this year. “The theme for this year gives many people and organizations the opportunity to showcase the talent that can be found in this beautiful province. The Parade is an important part of our Old Home Week tradition and an equally important part of our community. We are excited to see what ideas are brought to the Parade this year by new and returning groups.”
The 2018 Gold Cup Parade will also offer younger spectators some of the best in children’s entertainment, including Paw Patrol, Nella the Princess Knight, as well as Toopy and Binoo. These characters will be featured in the Gold Cup Parade, with all characters continuing to the Old Home Week Exhibition Grounds for a meet and greet at 2:00 p.m. Admission to the Old Home Week grounds will be free for children 12 and under from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Parade day. This year’s children’s entertainment is proudly sponsored by Maritime Electric.
