2017 Gold Cup Parade Celebrates Canada 150

(Charlottetown, PE) – Details of the 56th annual Gold Cup Parade were announced at a news conference held at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino this morning. The Gold Cup parade will be held on Friday, August 18th, beginning at 10 AM.

The 2017 Gold Cup Parade theme is “Canada Eh!” in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. All float entries should try to incorporate the theme into the design of their floats.  Parade Chair, Ray Murphy hopes we will see an increase in the number of float entries this year. “We hope to see unique entries that represent everything Canada has to offer, from many different groups and organizations throughout the entire Island. The parade truly is in the hands of the community, and is not possible without the support and participation of Islanders.”  With the theme of “Canada Eh!” parade organizers are also encouraging spectators to show their Canadian Pride and wear red and white to this year’s Parade.

The 2017 Gold Cup Parade will also offer our younger spectators some of the best in children’s entertainment, including Paw Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as Bob the Builder. They will all be featured in the Gold Cup Parade, with Bob the Builder continuing to the Old Home Week Exhibition Grounds for a live show at 2:00 p.m.  Admission to the Old Home Week grounds will be free for children 12 and under from noon until 2:00 p.m.  This year’s children’s entertainment is proudly sponsored by Maritime Electric.

Applications for Parade entries, volunteers and other information about the Parade can be found online at www.goldcupparade.ca. The deadline for parade entries is August 1st.
